Why guests fly into BQN
Rafael Hernández Airport (BQN), also called the Aguadilla airport, sits roughly 40 minutes from Casa Nakhla — the shortest airport drive to the villa, versus about 1 hour 20 minutes from San Juan (SJU). That doesn't automatically make it the cheaper flight, though — fares shift by airline and season, so it's worth comparing both airports before you book.
Picking up your rental car
A rental car is essential for this trip — there's no meaningful rideshare coverage this far from San Juan, and taxis are scarce, so book your car in advance rather than counting on one at the counter. You'll want it for the drive in, and for every beach, cave, and restaurant on this stretch of coast, since Casa Nakhla sits up in the hills of Camuy.
The drive from the airport
The route runs along Puerto Rico's northwest coast, through Isabela and into the hills above Camuy — mostly open coastal road before the last stretch climbs inland to the villa. Plan on around 40 minutes door to door, a little more if you stop along the way.
A grocery stop on your way in
The villa is stocked with the basics, but if you'd rather bring your own groceries, there are stores on the way into Camuy:
- Supermercado Econo, Camuy — the closest option, just down the road from the villa.
- Kash N' Karry — about 10–15 minutes from the villa.
- Walmart and Sam's Club, Hatillo — about 15–20 minutes from the villa, for a bigger stock-up.
If you'd rather skip the stop altogether, the hosts can arrange grocery pre-stocking before you arrive — free on stays of 7 nights or more — just ask about it when you book.
Landing late? Arriving early? Either way, you're covered
Check-in is self-service via smart lock any time after 4:00 PM — there's no front desk to catch, so a late flight or a slow drive in from BQN won't cost you anything. Your door code lands in your pre-arrival email about 3 days before you arrive. If you land early and want to get in before 4:00 PM, message the hosts first — early check-in depends on the cleaning schedule, so it's never guaranteed in advance.
