Winter, roughly December through April, is the island's dry season and its high season for travel — expect it to be busier and worth booking further ahead. Summer runs hotter and more humid, with warm seas, and it's also when a lot of Puerto Rican families travel, so it has its own kind of local energy rather than being a quiet off-season.

Hurricane season: June 1 – November 30

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with activity historically peaking from mid-August through October. That's a wide window, and most days within it are completely normal — but it's real, and we'd rather be upfront about it than pretend it doesn't exist. For anything beyond general awareness, the National Hurricane Center (hurricane.gov) is the source to check as your travel dates get close, not this page.

Travel insurance, if you're booking in season

If your trip falls inside hurricane season, it's worth a look at travel insurance that covers trip interruption or cancellation — policies and hurricane-specific terms vary by provider, so read the coverage details rather than assuming what's included.

What's in place at the villa, in case of an outage
