How the water reserve works
City water in the area goes out now and then. The 1,000-gallon reserve now switches on automatically when that happens, so water should keep flowing. While the house is running on the reserve, please skip the jacuzzi and keep showers short. If there's still no water after it should have kicked in, contact the hosts right away rather than waiting it out.
Using the generator prudently
The whole-house backup generator is there in case of an island outage. Heavy AC load drains its fuel faster than normal use, so during a longer outage we ask guests to switch off any ACs they aren't using — there's a single master switch by the upstairs entrance that turns off every AC in the house at once, which makes this easy.
Why island guests care about this
Puerto Rico's grid isn't always reliable, and plenty of rentals have no backup plan at all. Casa Nakhla's generator, water reserve and Starlink internet exist specifically so an island-wide outage doesn't have to derail your trip — a real, practical reason guests choose it over a place with nothing in reserve.
The honest limits
This setup is built to bridge an outage, not to promise one will never happen or that it will last indefinitely. If you notice anything isn't working the way it should — power, water, or otherwise — call the hosts immediately rather than troubleshooting the equipment yourself; the pool and utility machinery in particular should never be adjusted by guests.

What happens if the water goes out?+
The 1,000-gallon reserve switches on automatically. If there's still no water, contact the hosts right away — and skip the jacuzzi and keep showers short while the house is on reserve.
Do we have real internet if the power or cable goes down?+
Yes — Starlink satellite internet with routers throughout the house, including the pool area, independent of the local grid or cable provider.
